Ayurvedic External Piles Treatment ( Home Remedies for Piles )

Piles, or haemorrhoids, are caused when there is an inflammation of the veins in the anus and rectum. External piles develop at the opening of the anus and cause much more pain than internal piles as this area is very sensitive. Hard lumps form around the anal opening and the patient experiences a burning sensation, irritation and itching. These lumps may rupture at times and a slight bleeding may occur.

External piles are mostly seen in people with chronic constipation. They may also develop due to lifting heavy objects, prolonged sitting, obesity, aging, or hereditary reasons. Home remedies are very beneficial in reducing the pain, itching and burning sensation. You can try these at your home itself in order to avoid the development of external piles and to get relief from these painful symptoms if you are suffering from this condition.

Some Home Remedies For External Piles

Soak In Warm Water

Sit in a tub of warm water, which reaches your hips, for around fifteen minutes. It helps keep the anal area clean and also reduces swelling, inflammation and irritation due to the external piles. The sphincter muscles relax as you soak in the warm water, providing much relief from the pain.

Do this three to four times a day. This is the best way to get a quick relief from the painful symptoms of external piles. Dry the anus gently with a soft towel after the bath. You can also use a hair dryer instead as rubbing the towel can irritate the area further.

Cold Packs

An ice pack can be applied on the external piles, which helps reduce the pain. Pack in some ice cubes, or crushed ice, in a clean cloth and apply this bag on the affected area for around fifteen minutes at least.

Do this several times a day and you are sure to find a reduction in swelling and pain. This will also help reduce the itching in the anal area.

Maintain Hygiene

It is important to maintain good hygiene in the affected area which is inflamed and might be bleeding slightly. After toilet, the anal area should be wiped gently with a soft wash cloth, or you could also use wet personal care wipes. Do not wipe with dry toilet paper as it will irritate the external piles and may cause bleeding.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is very beneficial for our health and is used in a variety of ailments. Its gel can easily be removed from the thick leaves, rather stems, and applied on the affected area.

It really helps because this gel has very cooling and soothing properties. Applying this gel regularly will help heal the external piles and reduce the pain and inflammation considerably.

Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly has soothing and healing properties. Dab a little on a clean cotton ball and apply over the painful external piles. You will get a lot of relief from the pain and the swelling will reduce considerably.

Petroleum jelly can also be applied to the anus when you go to toilet. If the stools are hard, it helps provide a smooth passage so that the piles do not get scratched from the hard stools, which would worsen their condition and may cause bleeding.

Apply A Teabag

Tea contains a substance, called tannin, which is a natural astringent. Applying a warm, wet teabag will help reduce the swelling and provide much relief from the pain you are suffering from due to the external piles. You can apply a teabag three to four times a day.

Apply Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the best home remedies for treating external piles. It is a natural astringent and helps reduce the pain as well as inflammation in the affected area.

Take a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar and apply it to the piles. Do this twice a day until the inflammation and symptoms disappear completely. You can also add apple cider vinegar to your bath and soak in it.

Use A Small Stool In Toilet

External piles cause a lot of discomfort and passing stools can be quite painful in such a condition. To avoid putting strain on the blood vessels in the anal area, it helps to keep a small stool under your feet. Also, do not spend a lot of time in the toilet as it puts more strain on the area around the piles.

Consume Psyllium Seeds

A low fibre diet makes you constipated which leads to constipation. This may result in an occurrence of piles, which could be internal or external. Psyllium seeds are very beneficial for people suffering from external piles.

They are rich in fibre and make the stools soft and easy to pass. This helps make the bowel movements smoother and prevents pain. Have some psyllium seeds with plenty of water at every meal time. You won’t need to take any additional fibre supplements if you do this regularly.

Lots Of Fibre

The major cause of piles is the lack of fibre in the food. The hard stools exert pressure on the nerves in the anal area, resulting in inflammation and piles, either internal or external.

Eat lots of high-fibre foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be preferred over their juices as they lose their fibre in the extraction process.

Things To Avoid

Do not have alcohol, caffeinated drinks and beverages. Also, avoid refined food, junk foods, processed and preserved foods.

You should also avoid meat completely. These will increase your constipation and worsen the condition of the external piles.

Drink Water

Constipation leads to the formation of piles. Avoid getting constipated by drinking lots of water throughout the day. Water helps regulate the bowel movements and makes the stools softer. This will help prevent the occurrence of piles and provide lot of relief from the symptoms of external piles.

Move Around

Do not sit for long in one position. This exerts pressure on the external piles and increases pain as well as inflammation

Take a break from your work, leave your chair and move around a bit, every now and then. This will help your blood circulation, too, and help avoid the worsening of the symptoms of the external piles
